It may be just a bit ironic that I’ve selected the (AA) acronym to highlight the achievements of fellow alumni from Albuquerque Academy (AA).
That said, I met one such alum earlier this year at an Academy Meetup of sorts in D.C. Alisa Lasater is pastor of a Methodist Church near Capitol Hill, and she is doing great work there.
While mingling at the meetup we discovered that she studied at Duke Divinity while I was also living in Durham, NC, and we were both influenced by Hauerwas.
Here is a link to a NY Times piece, and another, featuring what her church and the other church on her city block have done to reconcile racial tensions. That Obama’s inauguration has been the catalyst for many such changes cannot be denied, and will certainly stand as one of his lasting contributions to America, through little effort of his own.
